Positions
Patrick McCabe on the Issues
Patrick has a passion for fairness and creating opportunities, particularly for the citizens of Medford and Malden. He considers health care, higher education, the environment and civil rights issues of utmost importance and looks forward to serving all constituents. Patrick will be a pro-choice, pro-equality, pro-stem cell research and pro-family candidate. See below for more specific information about:
Education
Because of his belief in the value of a good education, Patrick will support and promote legislation that helps public schools in Malden and Medford get the necessary resources to:
- maintain small class sizes;
- offer a comprehensive curriculum;
- attract highly qualified and motivated teachers; and
- improve student performance.
Patrick also believes in expanding access to early childhood education, as well as enhancing math and science programs so that our children can better compete in a global economy.

Healthcare
Patrick will support and promote legislation that ensures access to affordable quality healthcare for all Malden and Medford residents. Patrick also believes we need to find new ways to work with employers and health care providers to:
- offer more wellness and prevention programs that encourage healthy living, and
- find creative ways to better manage the cost of quality health care.

Local Aid
Many communities have resorted to raising residential property taxes in order to cover budget shortfalls, adding to the already heavy tax burden on our families. Patrick believes it is critically important for the Commonwealth to find new ways to raise funds that will be specifically earmarked for cities and towns in order to resolve the fiscal crisis many currently face.

Taxes
Each year, the Commonwealth loses millions of dollars in tax revenue because of various corporate tax loopholes. As a result, many education, healthcare and social service programs suffer. Furthermore, we must cover the difference through personal income and property taxes. By closing these corporate tax loopholes and evaluating the way we tax personal income, Patrick believes we can come up with a tax structure that is more fair to working families and raises badly needed revenue.

Jobs
Patrick will support and promote legislation that encourages development in areas such as biomedical research and environmental technology. By working with local research institutions and supporting innovation, the Commonwealth will be able to provide jobs in several growing industries. And by improving education and providing more workforce training programs, we will be able to better fill these jobs at the local level.

Environment
Patrick will support and promote legislation that addresses global warming, alternative fuel sources, clean air and clean water. By partnering with local business and research institutions, Patrick believes we can find solutions that help improve AND sustain a healthy and clean environment for future generations, while promoting job growth in new areas that will give our workforce a leadership role in environmental innovation.

Stem Cell Research
Patrick will strongly support legislation that promotes stem cell research. He believes stem cell research will allow scientists and health care professionals to find new ways to help people suffering from painful and debilitating conditions.

Choice
Patrick will oppose any legislative efforts designed to restrict access to safe and affordable reproductive health services. He will also support and promote any legislation that expands reproductive health services, including prevention and education programs.

Same-sex Marriage
Patrick believes our legislature should work to protect the rights of ALL families in the Commonwealth. He strongly supports same-sex marriage rights, and will oppose any effort to write discrimination into the Massachusetts Constitution.
